Lab Students Won 3rd Prize in HSBC FinTech Safeguard App Competition

A team of Lab students won 3rd Prize in HSBC FinTech Safeguard App Competition held in November to December 2017 for their outstanding idea on building a secure financial system and fight crime.
Led by Prof. Xu Jianliang, Professor, Computer Science, the team of two Computer Science students namely WANG Haixin (Year 3) and WEI Wenzhou (2017 graduate) was shortlisted and invited to join the Demo day in 13 December 2017. They had the opportunity to present their proposals and were selected 3rd Prize by a judging panel of technology and banking experts.
“Account Assistant� the project that earned the honour, is an app that can allow HSBC users to update the relevant banking information such as phone number and address in real-time without users�autonomous operations under the protection of their privacy. Online security technology such as Multi-factor authentication (MFA) and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology will be used in the app.
The HSBC FinTech Safeguard App Competition, organised by The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC), aims to mobilise talents in Hong Kong to develop technological solutions that can enable customers to meet the information requirements in the banking industry in more convenient and secure ways. Participants are asked to tackle one or both of the challenges targeting on retail or business customers in their proposals.
